The purpose of the article is to determine the principles of functional and

planning organization of suburban rural settlements and the main techniques corresponding to

them. The analysis of the conducted studies and the existing experience in the formation of the

planning structure of settlements and the generalization of scientific and methodological

literature determine the alternative and systematicity of the distribution of the principles of

unity of the city with the central city, functional specialization, updating of urban planning

documents. The following methods guarantee their implementation: seamless integration of

small business and service objects into production-residential and production-service

structures as new design objects, formation of new city-forming functions of settlements:

enterprises , services, recreation; formation of different functional types of SRS, taking into

account the dependence of the plan structure on external transport corridors and natural

features; formation of SRS with a number of functions: monofunctional, bifunctional,

multifunctional; to determine the most optimal way to develop SRS according to the

determining factors of development and to gradually form it as a specific type, to select the

determining factors of development and to evaluate the sign based on the determining factors

of development; changing the components of the settlement and converting them to a different

function. Recommendations for improving the functional and planning organization of various

types of SRS have been developed.
