Abstract
The article analyzes land management and design activities, as well as legal, environmental, and scientific-methodological approaches to establishing water protection and sanitary protection zones of water bodies in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation, the European Union, the USA, and the People’s Republic of China. A comparative study has been conducted of Uzbekistan’s current regulatory and legal documents and its experience in the field of land management and design in comparison with international standards. Modern methods for monitoring river ecosystems are examined, including the use of GIS, remote sensing, bioindicator assessment, and integrated water quality indices. Scientific problems and proposals for their solution are presented.
